The February girl
Monthly guide: Valentine´s day gift guide for her (or yourself), film recommendations, recipe ideas and general inspo.
Happy February! It’s the month of love and I’m very excited to live through it accordingly. This is a little guide for those who are looking to have a very romantic month.
1.I’ll start with painting the picture for my own February self, here’s what I’ll be wearing/using this month:
a. Sheer boat neck tops, I feel like these intimissimi ones are kind of the perfect pick, they went viral for a reason. I love the red and pink.
b. Babydoll dresses as loungewear. Looking adorable while making breakfast will make you feel something I promise.
c. Lush’s gourmand products. I am the biggest gourmand lover, this month I want to smell like chocolate and caramel, so I’m excited to try these out.
d. I’ll be looking at Audrey Horne for makeup inspo. Red lips, cat eye eyeliner and flushed cheeks.
For movies I’m excited to explore the works of Wong Kar Wai. I’ve never seen any of these but I think they will fit the February vibe well:
In the mood for love (2000): Set in 1962 Hong Kong about a man (Mr. Chow) and woman (Mrs. Chan) who become close friends when they suspect their spouses are having an affair.
Chungking express (1994): Two melancholic Hong Kong policemen fall in love. One with a mysterious female underworld figure, the other with a beautiful and ethereal waitress at a late-night restaurant he frequents.
Fallen angels (1995): Hong Kong-set crime drama follows the lives of a hitman, hoping to get out of the business, and his elusive female partner.
Onto the Valentine’s Day section of this post, here’s a gift guide for her (or yourself):
a. Loewe scented candles & matching room spray. An expensive scented candle is always a nice gift, it’s one of those things that everybody wants to have but nobody wants to spend their money on. Loewe has some very interesting scents, and after you burn through them you can definitely make use of the beautiful packaging. The beetroot and ivy ones are the perfect colors.
b. Serge Lutens discovery set. I chose this one specifically because the samples look like little potion vials, but most perfume houses do discovery sets and they make a wonderful gift in my opinion, especially if it comes with a discount towards a full bottle.
c. July Rose engraved heirloom pendant. Classic initial pendant, absolutely timeless and I love the way this specific one is shaped.
d. Catbird jewelry. Another engraved pendant option but a little more fun. I love the one that looks like a library card, you can customize it to say whatever you want. Another fun catbird option is the ghost charm, which has a loop where you can hang little ghosts (or whatever you want).
e. Romantic scents. My personal picks are Sweet by Lolita Lempicka (notes of candy apple style cherry, iris, cocoa absolute, angelica, musk, cashmeran) and Rose Adage by Odette Parfum Co. (notes of rose water, candied violet, bulgarian rose, crème anglaise, heliotrope, sheer musk, honeyed wood , velvet amber)
f. Cute salt and pepper shakers. These little owl shaped ones really won me over.
g. Matching body lotion and body wash. I love the Cyklar formula and packaging, they have a few different scents, the one pictured is vanilla verve.
h. I feel like all of us are going through an expensive hairbrush phase right now. The je t’aime brush is a great option if you’re gifting a loved one, the cherry red trio could make for a precious self gift.
If you’re hosting galentines or cooking for two, here are some recipe ideas:
a. Cherry cocktail, or mocktail.
b. My favorite thing to eat right now: Burrata and prosciutto on toasted sourdough bread, use that as your base and get creative! Personally I like to top it with balsamic glaze, honey, and peach slices. Perfect if you’re hosting a group of friends since you just need to assemble it.
c. If you’re feeling fancy these poached pears could be a good dessert idea. Here’s a cranberry rose option, and a red wine option.
d. If you’re not feeling that fancy, red velvet cookies are always a crowd pleaser (and my personal favorites) .
That’s all for now! I hope you enjoyed this and welcome to the Sugar Town newsletter. I plan on making one of these for every month, so I’ll be back with the March girl guide soon. I had a lot of fun making this so please tell me your thoughts in the comments.
(Also a special thanks to Mimy for encouraging me to start posting on here)
I hope February is full of love for all of you, see you in March!
