“Yes, I deserve a spring- I owe nobody nothing.” - Virginia Woolf, A Writer’s diary”
Happy spring lovelies. I hope the longer days and blooming flowers bring all of you joy. Here’s what April is going to look like in Sugar Town.
April wardrobe:
Spring is the season that makes so many of us crave newness, it always brings about the urge to freshen our spaces and the impulse to replace everything with something brand new and completely unconnected to past lives and past selves. Here’s how I like to tackle a little closet refresh in a manner that’s intentional and not overwhelming.
First step is to make space for new things. Taking the things that no longer serve me and donating them or passing them on to friends and family. This is the easy part, don’t overthink it!
Second step is welcoming in your new things, for this part I think Joan Didion’s packing list from the White Album serves as a wonderful guide.
I have gathered some of my personal picks based on this list.
Two skirts:
The first skirt is actually a slip dress, but if you throw something over it (sweater, cardigan, t-shirt) you can pretend it’s skirt. I really like the lace on the bottom and although you can find skirts in this style I just feel like a slip dress is easier to com across.
The second skirt is my favorite kind to wear on a daily basis, plain and comfy. Bonus points if it’s a skort. For a more girly choice I like the cou cou intimates pointelle mini skirt. For a more sporty look I like the Uniqlo ultra stretch skort.
Two tops:
I honestly could not live without a perfectly fitting plain white top. I do have some preferences when it comes to them and I encourage you to be picky as well and find one you absolutely love. For me it has to be full length, not ribbed, and it gets bonus points if it’s a little bit sheer. The sezane Martha t-shirt is my dream.
For the second top I would go for something more fun and colorful. Buffy is my all time favorite style inspo so I chose some of my favorite tops she wore for reference. Nothing specific, I always look for light purples and pinks and sheer and lace.
One sweater:
These are all from sezane, I love these shades of blue and I love how some of the girls on the website are shown wearing backwards cardigans as sweaters.
Sleepwear:
I have been searching for Ellen Hutter like nightgowns to wear this spring, the doen one is my dream but I will not be buying that anytime soon due to the price so I will be searching for alternatives.
(sorry I skipped shoes, I’ve been going through something of a transitional period regarding footwear, trying to figure out what I like)
Bag with:
These are some of my favorite toiletries at the moment. All the face products work great with dry skin and all the body products have very pleasant and soft scents.
April scents:
To smell like a little strawberry shortcake character:
Angel cake: Sol de Janeiro’s 59
Strawberry shortcake: Kayali’s yum boujee marshmallow
Orange blossom: The 7 virtues’ clementine dream
Lotions and potions:
For my beautiful packaging lovers. Apothecary style brands are perfect for spring since they tend to do mostly very floral and natural smelling scents (Officine universelle buly literally has a sweet potato and carrot scent). However, some of these brands can get very expensive, so what I like to do is splurge on a beautifully packaged lotion once and then when I run out I just refill it with whatever drugstore lotion I’m using at the time. Some brands you can check out if you want your beauty products to make you feel like a little fairy playing with potions are:
Officine universelle buly
Bienaime
Gucci beauty/alchemists garden
Penhaligons
Santa Maria novella
Panier des sens
Granado
Co bigelow
Szia skin
Tokyo milk
Oriza L legrand
Tocca
April movie:
The ultimate comfort movie for early spring tenderness.
Little Forest (2018): “A young woman grows tired of life in the city and returns to her hometown in the countryside.”
No major conflicts in this movie, just beautiful nature and a lot of cooking.
Thank you for reading.
I could include my Santa Maria Novella and Granado favorites on next month’s post so let me know if that’s something you’d like to see.
I hope April treats you well, goodbye for now!
